Reliable reformer, but 17 machines come with compromises

Pilates reformer session in a warm-toned studio

Loved

  • Very accessible in De Pijp, literally a minute from the metro, and consistently welcoming.

  • The programming is easy to navigate: Align, Tone and Power, with Power being the strongest and the one I would choose when I want a proper workout. They also use screens throughout the class, so you can always check the movement or sequence.

  • A lot of genuinely good instructors have taught here and later moved on to more specialized, seriously equipped studios. To me, that’s a good sign about the level of teachers they attract.

Didn’t Love

  • Seventeen reformers is simply a lot for one instructor. If the class is full and several people are new, you can go through most of it without getting a correction, which makes the experience much less personal.

  • There is also only one restroom for the whole studio. With up to 17 people leaving a class while another 17 arrive, there is almost always a queue during changeovers.

  • Instructor level varies quite a bit, so until you know who you like, booking can feel like trial and error.

  • I also don’t see much advantage in their membership. For me, ClassPass is easier and more flexible, and I would still come back for a Power class with an instructor I already know.
